The National Assembly on Wednesday, November 27, approved the appointment of Gerald Nyaoma Arita as the Central Bank of Kenya Deputy Governor following his nomination by President William Ruto.
Nyaoma’s approval came after the National Assembly Finance Committee chairperson Kuria Kimani moved a special motion from a joint Parliamentary Committee of the Senate and National Assembly that recommended him the position following the conclusion of interviews.
”Taking into consideration the findings of the Joint Committee of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning and the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget in its Report on the vetting of a nominee for appointment as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, this House approves the appointment of Mr Gerald Nyaoma Arita as the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya,” read part of the motion by Kuria.
Members of the National Assembly described Nyaoma as a very experienced and dedicated civil servant who deserved the position.

”If you look at his academic records, he had a first-class degree at the University of Nairobi, there are very few people who can post such records. He has deep domain knowledge of central banking in this country.
”If you looked at his presentation before the committee, you would see somebody who is well suited for this job and very able prepared to discharge the functions of Deputy Governor,” he added.
For the better part of his career, Nyaoma has steadily progressed through the ranks of CBK, eventually rising to the position of Deputy Governor.
Nyaoma will now assume office as the second Deputy Governor of CBK upon taking the oath of office, following his selection from an initial shortlist of six candidates identified by the Public Service Commission.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly also approved the appointment of Rehema Jaldesa and Michael Nziomo as Chairperson and member of the National Gender Equality Commission, respectively.
