Kirinyaga County will extend the Kerugoya-Kutus Bulk Water Project to cover an additional 1000 households in Mutithi Ward.
Speaking while distributing 164 high-density water pipes for the Kinyaga Water Project, Governor Anne Waiguru said with increased capacity, the county can now supply more families with the commodity.
Already, about 400,000 residents of Kirinyaga County are enjoying a steady supply of clean water thanks to the new bulk water project.
“The Kinyaga Water Project will help in ensuring that residents, key institutions, and markets such as Kagio and Kandongu have a reliable water supply,” she explained.
Waiguru, who spoke at Kiangogu village in Mwea West, said the pipes will help in the distribution of water sourced from the Rwamuthambi River.
The project will benefit residents of Rwang’ondu, Kiamaciri, Kiunga, Gatwara and Kiambati villages.
“This project is part of our equitable development plan aimed at uplifting the living standards of our people across the county,” she said.
The governor also distributed learning materials, furniture and free uniforms for ECDE learners in Mutithi Ward. A total of 1,012 ECDE pupils—496 girls and 516 boys—will receive the uniforms, while centres such as Kagio, Kandongu, Rwang’ongu and Mugaa have benefitted from new classroom furniture and storage units.
“Education is the foundation of a bright future, and we are determined to provide our young learners with the best environment to thrive,” Governor Waiguru stated.
To support community welfare groups, the governor also handed over plastic chairs and tents to several groups. She also gave out assorted sports kits to several local teams.
“Youth empowerment remains a priority in our county’s development agenda. We are committed to nurturing sports talent for livelihood,” she affirmed.
Waiguru further urged the youth to remain focused and avoid falling into distractions such as drug and alcohol abuse.
