The government will soon establish talent programmes in all Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) across the country in an effort to produce all-round and wholesome students.

This, according to Acting Assistant Secretary for TVETs Education, Mr. Joseph Njau, will pave the way for talent search among students and also resonate with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET).

He said that the government, through the Ministry of Education, would be rolling out a programme to train youth on the necessary skills to help them commercialise their talents into gainful ventures.

Mr. Njau noted that this will also generate an opportunity to create job opportunities given the shrinking white-collar jobs space and should be embraced by both the public and private stakeholders to empower the young generation.

He explained that the TVETs would compete in the talent search activities for the various levels both locally and internationally, opportunities that boost the skills of learners.

He observed that plans were underway to enhance the programmes and will seek to help students hone their skills in content creation, sentiments that were echoed by Nyandarua County Director for TVETs Mr. Peter Karume and Nyandarua National Polytechnic Principal Mr. Felix Mung’atu.

TVETs will provide the academy with creative content developed by the students, allowing those talented to be engaged by the academy in various aspects.

They spoke during celebrations to mark the Nyandarua National Polytechnic Open Day, dubbed “TVET for sustainable development” that culminated with fashion shows at the institute’s grounds.

They challenged students talented in the arts to take advantage of the programmes and academies to beat joblessness, which they attributed to skill mismatch and lack of innovative and creative aspects.

“In a world where the creative arts industry has gained lots of interest, students need to become innovative and creative to exploit that space,” said Njau.
