In third place was resigned federation CEO Barry Otieno, who garnered 10 votes, closely followed by Cleophas Shimanyula in fourth place with 4 votes.

Following his election, Hussein Mohamed is set to replace Nick Mwendwa, who served at the helm of the Federation for six years since 2016.

The elections were initially forced into a runoff after all the candidates failed to attain the 50 per cent threshold in the first round. However, Mohammed gained victory after the second round of elections.

Among those who participated in the elections included four representatives of the coaches, and referees, while the rest of the election participants were delegates from various counties.

The 90 delegates voted for various seats, including the federation’s president, deputy president, and National Executive Committee (NEC) members.

Addressing Kenyans after clinching the top seat, Hussein Mohammed expressed gratitude for the delegates who participated in the voting processes even as he vowed to transform the federation.

Taking to his social media accounts, Mohammed wrote, “Thank you to all the delegates who believed in the fresh start team and voted for change. This is not just our win, it’s a win for every player, fan, club, and supporter who dreams of a better future for our game.”

He added, “The work to rebuild Kenyan football begins now. Together, we will restore pride, nurture talent, and bring back the passion that unites us all. Thank you very much for making this possible.”
