Kalonzo Musyoka Forced to Address Claims He Stalled Reconstitution of IEBC

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday refuted the notion that he is the reason why the country lacks a functioning electoral agency.

In a scathing statement, the Wiper boss denied claims he was to blame for a court case that has dragged on for months, thus hindering President William Ruto from appointing a panel to pick new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The country is set for an anxious wait for a new electoral commission, as a case involving Kalonzo’s ally Ambassador Koki Muli is set to be heard in January 2025.

However, the former Vice President maintains that his team kept proper timelines, and the delays were state-sponsored.

“On IEBC, we adhered to the strict timelines of the Court and we gave the name Koki Muli,” the Wiper Party leader stated.

“The state itself has filed an appeal with the Kiambu High Court against our decision. They want candidates who are easy to influence and manipulate. It is a Ruto strategy to ensure there is no IEBC.”

More sensationally, Kalonzo dragged National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula in the IEBC mess saying, “Speaker Wetangula is also part of the conspiracy against Kenyans. If they had taken time to marshall Parliament, as they did with Riggy G (former DP Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment), the country would not be in a constitutional crisis.”

In August, National Liberal Party leader Augustus Kyalo Muli was picked by the Political Parties Liaison Committee as the Azimio representative in the IEBC selection panel.

This did not please the Azimio coalition who wanted Wiper’s Koki Muli in the panel.

During the election, Kyalo floored Kiko of the Wiper party by garnering 16 votes against Koki’s seven. Azimio, however, disputed the outcome. 

Augustus, who has always maintained he was duly elected, moved to court as he sued Azimio la Umoja for attempting to delist him from the list presented by political parties.

This petition ultimately halted the panel selection process as conservatory orders were issued barring the appointment of the panel until the matter was heard.
