The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Kiambu Road for two weeks starting December 23 to January 6, 2025.
In a notice issued on Saturday, December 21, the authority announced the closure would facilitate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road will be temporarily closed at a section between Kirigiti Roundabout to St.Peter and Paul Catholic Church,” part of the notice read.

For motorists affected by the route closure, their vehicles will be diverted through the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route during the period.
They have also been urged to exercise caution around the work zones, follow the proposed traffic management plan below, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
The closure will extend through the holiday season, adding yet another major highway disruption expected to affect travellers heading upcountry.
This comes just a day after the authority announced a massive traffic pile-up along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in the lead-up to the Christmas holiday.
KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u, in his announcement, revealed that the traffic congestion only affected the Rironi-Naivasha-Nakuru Road and the Rironi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road.
He also urged motorists to use alternative routes, including the Naivasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru route, the Flyover-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru route, and the Ngong-Suswa-Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru highway.
“The Authority, with the support of traffic police, is on hand to provide the necessary guidance and traffic control to ensure you reach your destinations safely and without delays,” part of the statement read.
The announcement came shortly after St John Ambulance revealed that the section between Kimende and Flyover on the major highway was experiencing heavy traffic congestion.
