KeNHA Announces Closure of Mombasa Road at Nyayo Stadium & Museum Hill

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of Mombasa Road between Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and Museum Hill Interchange.

KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u disclosed on Saturday, November 30, that the sections of the road would experience traffic disruption on Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 6am to 10:30am.

He said the road closure was to allow for a 21-km half marathon that is set to take place in commemoration of this year’s World Aids Day scheduled for Sunday this week.

Motorists plying the two routes were advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” read part of the notice.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the Authority’s recent notices on the closure of several roads within Nairobi city. Hardly a week ago, KeNHA boss Kung’u Ndung’u announced the closure of Uhuru Highway’s Haille Sellasie roundabout for 51 days.

Ndung’u revealed that the road would be closed from November 28 this year to January 17 next year. He said the disruption was to allow for the construction of a pedestrian underpass which is currently under construction along the road.

In the notice issued on Friday, November 22, motorists were advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.

Similarly, a fortnight ago, KeNHA announced traffic disruption along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway between the Makupa Bridge and Changamwe Interchange from Sunday, November 17 to Sunday, December 1, 2024.

According to KeNHA, the disruption was to allow for road construction and drainage works to enhance road connectivity between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe.

“This is to allow for road construction and drainage works to ensure seamless road connectivity between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe area,” KeNHA noted in its notice.

Additionally, motorists were told to drive with caution while approaching the section of the road and further follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
