Kenya Power has confirmed delays in the generation of tokens purchased through paybill numbers, after numerous complaints online.Â
According to the country’s utility company, the delay which has affected many was due to a technical issue.
“We are currently experiencing a delay in the generation of tokens purchased through our Paybill 888880. Our team is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” Kenya Power said in a statement released on Friday night.
In the statement, the utility company went on to affirm that its technicians were working to resolve the issue.

Messages of the issue started emerging at around 8pm on Friday, with users taking to social media to highlight the problem.Â
A majority of those who shared their frustrations online indicated they had been waiting for their tokens for over two hours. Ordinarily, it takes a few minutes for the process to be completed.
“What’s wrong with this Kenya Power Surely I am in darkness and yet have paid tokens,” Jeff Kibet wrote on X.Â
Another post from a user by the name of Mahinda read, “I’ve been in the dark for two hours now!!”
He added, “Tokens can’t be processed!”
In their statement, Kenya Power asked those intending to buy tokens to be advised to purchase them through the banks.
“In the meantime, customers can purchase tokens through the appointed banks. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the company said.
The company added, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
