The Kenya Railways Corporation has advised Kenyans to book tickets over the counter after a temporary disruption of online booking of Standard Guage Railway (SGR) train services.
The corporation in a statement on Friday, January 24, revealed that it was experiencing a technical challenge with its booking platforms and as a result, customers were unable to purchase tickets online.
Despite the hitch, Kenya Railways assured its customers that a technical team had already been deployed to address the matter with normalcy expected soon.
“Dear Esteemed Customer, we are currently experiencing a technical challenge with our booking platforms. As a result, customers are unable to purchase tickets online,” Kenya Railways announced.

The statement added, “Our technical team is addressing the issue and we anticipate normalcy will be restored as soon as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for your continued support.”
Kenya Railways was forced to clarify the matter after a section of Kenyans online expressed their frustrations over the corporation’s delay in addressing the matter which they claimed immensely inconvenienced them.
The SGR formally began its operations in 2018, however, since its inception, the train service has experienced occasional challenges including service disruption which has led to a decline in revenue collected.
Similar incidents have also been reported recently in other train services across the country. Barely a fortnight ago, Kenya Railways announced the Nanyuki train service disruption.
In a brief statement to members of the public, Kenya Railways on Thursday, January 16, revealed that the train service would be unavailable on January 17 due to a blockage on the railway line.
According to Kenya Railways, the blockage on a section of the line hindered the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki.
“We wish to inform members of the public that the Nanyuki Safari train will not run on Friday, January 17, 2025. This is due to a blockage on a section of the line, which is hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki,” Kenya Railways announced.
“Our technical teams are working to clear the blockage and restore the line to working order. As always, the safety of our passengers is of paramount importance to us.”
