Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) had announced a disruption that would result in the Nanyuki service train being unavailable on Friday, January 17, after a section of the railway line was blocked, hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki.

”We wish to inform members of the public that the Nanyuki Safari train will not run on Friday, January 17, 2025,” Kenya Railways announced.

”This is due to a blockage on a section of the line, which is hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki,” it noted.

However, the railway service did not disclose the cause of the blockage or the specific nature of the issue affecting the railway line. The disruption of the Nanyuki train disappointed Kenyans who had planned to travel over the weekend.

KRC sought to reassure the public, stating that a team had been deployed to conduct repair works on the line to ensure the prompt resumption of the service.

The announcement followed a series of recent service disruptions that the authority has communicated in the past, affecting major routes.

On December 19, 2024, the authority informed commuters of the suspension of commuter trains scheduled to run between December 23, 2024 and January 5, 2025.

The suspension impacted the Nairobi Commuter Train Service, which serves estates and centres within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
