Kioni Hits Out at Governor Kahiga Over Controversial Sentiments Against Kang'ata

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has condemned Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over claims that his Murang’a counterpart Irungu Kang’ata risked losing his political seat if he failed to support former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Governor Kahiga, on Monday, February 10, asked Kang’ata to make public his stand and realign his political ambition with that of the former DP or risk losing his seat in the next general elections.

Addressing mourners at a burial in Laikipia County, Kahiga said that the Mt Kenya region was fully behind Gachagua and they would follow the former DP’s direction without question.

“We would like to tell Kang’ata to listen to the ground since we will follow the direction in which the Mt Kenya Kingpin will declare,” Kahiga stated.

Responding to the Nyeri Governor’s comments, Kioni termed Kahiga’s sentiments that targeted his fellow leader as not only uncalled for but also unacceptable.

According to the Jubilee party leader, such sentiments have no place in the current society, and the broader Mt Kenya region would not allow the frustration of good leaders by sycophants.

While taking a dig at Kahiga, the Azimio principal warned that the Mt Kenya region risked making the mistake they made in 2022 because of blind loyalty.

“The attacks on Governor Irungu Kang’ata by Governor Mutahi Kahiga in Laikipia today were not only uncalled for but unacceptable. This kind of political thuggery has no place in our society,” Kion said.

“We will not stand by as good leaders from Mt Kenya are sacrificed at the altar of sycophancy and blind loyalty. We made that mistake in 2022, never again! Mark my words,” he added.

Kioni’s sentiments came a day after former DP Gachagua cautioned Mt Kenya leaders who follow President William Ruto despite the latter’s alleged betrayal of the region, that they risked facing backlash in the next general elections.

Speaking during a televised presser while releasing his interim report from his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua vowed to decamp all the Mt Kenya politicians supporting the Head of State.

“This region will vote out leaders who prioritise their won interest over the interest of the community. Those who sell our region for their political gain will never see leadership again,” Gachagua warned.
