KNEC Portal Crashes as Kenyans Struggle to Access 2024 KCSE Results

A section of parents and students have been thrown into a state of confusion after they were unable to access their 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal reportedly went down moments after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos announced how to access the exam results.

While releasing the examination results on Thursday morning, CS Migos advised parents and students to access their results via results.knec.ac.ke

“Individual 2024 KCSE candidate examination results will be accessed online through a secure link: knec.ac.ke. Enter the candidate’s index number and any one of the names as per the registration data of the 2024 examination results,” CS Migos announced.

“Any candidates with difficulties accessing results should call Knec toll-free number 0800724900 or 0800721410,” he added.

Despite officially declaring the results, most of the schools and individual candidates have yet to receive their results as the portal failed to load the results.

Taking to social media platforms, most Kenyans expressed their frustrations over the delays in accessing the portal, with some urging the examination council to urgently rectify the menace.

Kereri Girls High School principal who spoke to Citizen TV revealed that accessing results online took about ten minutes to come out.

“From the time we requested for the results, there have been hitches but for the few students we have been able to see their results we have seen A- and some B but we hope the network will be restored,” noted the school principal.

The government’s decision to allow Kenyans to access the secondary examination results through an online portal was first utilised during the release of the 2023 KCSE exams.

This was a deviation from the previous method where Kenyans accessed results by sending a Short Message Service (SMS), however, a similar challenge was witnessed during the release of the 2023 exams.

The shift from SMS was informed by concerns by members of the public who complained about receiving fake results through the message services.

Meanwhile, the CS, while releasing the results, revealed that a total of 962,512 candidates sat for the examinations compared to 899,453 candidates in 2023.

He further announced that about 840 candidates were involved in examination irregularities in 2024 and their examination results were cancelled.
