DP Kindiki Announces Crackdown on Drugs in Schools

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will release the results of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), the Ministry of Education has announced.

In a press statement dated January 4 and signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Migos, the ministry urged parents with pupils who did KPSEA to check their results as soon as the portal is opened.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment learner reports will be accessible on school portals in the week commencing January 6, 2025,” the statement read in part.

KPSEA is a significant evaluation process for Grade 6 learners and serves as a transitional assessment that reflects the impact of the competency-based curriculum (CBC) on their primary education. According to the Ministry, the pioneer cohort of CBC will transit to Grade 9 this term as scheduled.

Similarly, the government maintained that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results will be released within the first two weeks of January.

The Ministry announced that term one of 2025 will have 13 weeks, with 5 days for midterm break. All schools are expected to re-open for the new term on Monday, January 6.

In 2024, KPSEA attracted a total of 1,313,913 candidates from across the nation, participating in 35,573 examination centres. 

The Ministry stated it is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for learners. “To ensure a seamless transition to Grade 9, the government initiated the construction of 16,000 classrooms countrywide in four phases. The completion status thus far is at 93 per cent,” the government explained.

The CS noted in the few instances where part of the construction works has not been fully finalised, education field officers and heads of institutions are under instruction to effect temporary measures to ensure that all learners are safe.

At the same time, the Ministry confirmed that 9,926,618 textbooks have been dispatched to schools countrywide.

“The distribution is expected to be complete by Monday, January 6, 2025, to facilitate smooth academic operations.

On the issue of capitation, the Ministry promised to disburse Ksh48.3 billion, being 50 per cent in term two, schools will receive 30 per cent of the capitation, while the balance of 20 percent will be disbursed in term three.
