Kolanya Girls National School and Kolanya Boys High School from Teso North have emerged as the top performers in Busia County in the 2024 KCSE, registering over 87 percent direct university entry.

Speaking while presenting KCSE results for 2024, Kolanya Girls’ National School Principal Tabitha Okama appreciated the support of the teachers, parents, students, and other stakeholders towards the school’s stellar results.

“In the year 2024, we had a candidature of 266 girls where our top student scored an A of 82 points; others included 10 A-, 43 B+, 42 B plain, 75 B-, 57 C+, 21 C, and 17 C-.

We had a total number of 228 girls with direct entry to university, while as a school we emerged the top in the county with a mean of 8.04, which is a B-. Our commitment remains in integrity, which is our core value, and we will continue working hard as the school and students so that we continue to perform well,” she said.

The two schools that stormed the streets of Malaba Town to celebrate their sterling results attributed their performance to discipline, hard work, and determination, according to Jemimah Shikuku, the top student at Kolanya Girls National School.

“I would like to attribute this result to the discipline, hard work, and commitment from students and teachers who made sure this year we are at the top at both the county and national levels,” said Sikuku.

She aspires to join the University of Nairobi and pursue medicine and surgery, which has been her dream career from her childhood.

Kolanya Boys High School Principal Jacktone Indimuli, on the other hand, noted that the school has emerged as the top extra-county and boys school in the county with a mean of 8.01, a mean they have been pursuing since 2015.

This year we had 4 A-, 33 B+, 72 B, 105 B-, 110 C+, 18 C, and 5 C-. We had 347 candidates, out of whom 324 have direct entry to university, representing 93.37 per cent of the total students, and even the remaining one can get the quality training in the TVETs.

Our mean score is 8.01, which is a B- —something we have never had since 2015,” he said, adding that they want to ensure that the school remains the champion not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities.

Teso North Sub-county Director of Education, Elizabeth Marangach, promised the schools the government’s support to ensure they continue to produce good results.

“We want our 2025 candidates to perform better than the 2024 candidates. Last year we had a target of being the best in the county. In 2023 we were the second sub-county in the county after a period of 10 years, but in 2024 we are now the best. I want to promise you government support so that we can continue to produce the best results,” she stated.
