Malava Member of Parliament, Moses Malulu Injendi, has passed away.
The lawmaker’s death was confirmed on Monday, February 17, after weeks of hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
While his cause of death has yet to be made public, the legislator was reportedly enduring breathing problems in the days leading up to his passing.
Confirming Injendi’s passing was Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, who described the late MP as a passionate leader. Wetangula further divulged that Injendi passed away around 5.15 pm at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

“It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the demise of our esteemed colleague, Moses Malulu Injendi, who left us this evening, February 17, 2025, at 5.15 pm at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He was the Member of Malava Constituency and Vice Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Education & Research,” the Speaker said in a statement obtained by Kenyans.co.ke.
Wetangula added: “His tireless efforts and contribution to our legislative processes, particularly the Education sector and sugar industry aimed at improving the lives of the Kenyan people, will be deeply missed.”
Injendi’s death comes after weeks of speculation about his health. In January, rumours were rife that he had passed away, but his family at the time, through Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, swiftly dismissed these rumours, saying the MP was undergoing treatment.
When pinned down to explain what was ailing the lawmaker, Governor Barasa at the time refused indicating that all he was allowed to speak on was an update on his status.
A member of Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress(ANC), Injendi was in his third term in Parliament since 2013 – a feat which exhibited the electorate’s faith in his leadership abilities.
Injendi was known for his bold and outspoken nature, earning admiration for his willingness to speak out against issues he disagreed with. As recently as November 2024, the lawmaker went after the church for rejecting President William Ruto’s cash donations.
Injendi famously asked for forgiveness from the President on behalf of the Church while maintaining that it was a shame for the Nairobi Archdiocese leadership to reject the President’s donations.
”We were ashamed and I would like to appeal to our bishops that you cannot do what you did to the President. May God forgive and bless you,’’ he told the President, adding that the rejection of the donations was improper since the church was in need of financial resources.
In 2019, the MP also famously Injendi, a University of Nairobi alumnus, proposed a law which would require administrators of Facebook and WhatsApp groups to register with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) before setting them up.
The Malava MP’s death is the second high-profile demise of a prominent Kenyan politician, and it comes just a day after Baringo Senator William Cheptumo passed away aged 57.
