Martin Mwau, Second Missing Mlolongo Man Found Dead

A second body of the missing Mlolongo four was found dead at the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as City Mortuary, late on Thursday, January 30.

The body of Martin Mwau was discovered following investigations. The four men from Mlolongo, Machakos County including Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, Karani Mwema, and Stephen Mbisi Kavingu went missing on December 16 and December 17, 2024.

The four were reportedly taken by masked individuals believed to be police officers.

Reports indicate that Martin, who has been missing for 44 days now, went missing on December 17. The discovery has left more questions in the puzzle of his disappearance. There are no details on the condition of his body at this moment. However, a post-mortem is likely to follow to determine his cause of death and aid in the probe of his whereabouts.

Earlier today, the body of Justus Mutumwa was discovered at the same mortuary. According to the family, Mutumwa had gone missing on December 16, 2024. His lawyer Dan Maanzo told the press that Mutumwa was found dead in Ruai and his body was moved to the City Mortuary.

According to the lawyer, Mutumwa’s body was found while the court proceedings to determine the whereabouts were still ongoing. “A quick check of fingerprints has confirmed that it is him,” Maanzo told the media at the Milimani Law Courts.

The family says his body was collected from Ruai and taken to the mortuary on December 18, 2024, just two days after he went missing. This raises questions about why it took so long for the police to find him despite the public outcry and pressure.

The National Police Service (NPS) has maintained it was never involved in the alleged abduction of the four and it is only involved in probing the matter.

While honouring court summons after a long battle, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin denied having taken the four into custody and claimed the police were not involved in their disappearance.

Kanja told the court, ”Your honour, we have none of the subjects. I want to confirm before this court that we have none of them.”

When the DCI boss took the stand, he too insisted that the police don’t have the missing persons but are in the middle of investigations to determine their whereabouts. ”I wish to confirm that the investigations are still on course, and at an appropriate time, the files will be forwarded to the ODPP,” Amin stated.

The discovery of Mwau’s body adds to growing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the trio’s disappearance and deaths. Their case has been met with repeated denials from top police agencies regarding their whereabouts.
