The Migori Public Service Board has outlined reasons why 181 county workers were let go from their various positions in the County Government.
In a Gazette Notice dated January 10, the Board revealed that most of the staff let go were from the Center for International Health Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB) department
Receiving their remuneration from CDC-USAID, the contracts in the department run up to September 30 and are renewed upon request starting October 1.
“The Board was requested by the Department of Public Health and Sanitation to renew the contracts of the existing CIHEB staff, effective 1st October 2024 and upon ensuring that the following parameters were met, the same was renewed,” part of the notice read.

However, only 319 were renewed while the other 91 were let go after reviewing several parameters including; Staff performance appraisal, relevant academic documents, relevant registration, and valid licenses as well as disciplinary cases.
Diversity of the county and gender parity issues were also considered.
“It was formally brought to the attention of the Board that CIHEB had budget cuts for Migori meaning the human capital had to be downsized,” the statement declared.
This overhaul came a few months after 58 staff were recruited in the department to assist in the management of the HIV pandemic in May.
Another massive firing of 86 employees occurred after a crackdown revealed they had been using fake academic documents.
The last four were let go following separate reports from the County Human Resource Management Advisory Committee (CHRMAC).
One of the four was dismissed for reportedly proceeding to study in another country without permission while another was dismissed for gross misconduct.
The other two were fired for absenteeism.
