Thousands of enthusiastic youths Friday thronged the Mama Ngina Waterfront to try their chance for 300 truck drivers and 100 forklift operators’ overseas jobs announced by the Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri.

Successful applicants will work for the DP World organisation, a multinational logistics company.

“The initiative aims at addressing unemployment and empowering the youth of Mombasa.  It will complement the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection’s nationwide recruitment drives for international jobs,” said the speaker

The recruitment by DP World’s company relieved many families in Mombasa, where unemployment has been a major concern. The job opportunities are expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy and empower young people to build a better future for themselves.

Speaker Khatri expressed his gratitude to DP World, for the numerous job opportunities for Mombasa youths.

The positions are available in various ports across the Middle East, offering a chance for young people to gain international experience and contribute to the growth of the maritime sector.

DP World initially wanted 200 drivers and 50 forklift operators but with the large numbers that applied for the jobs, the speaker successfully persuaded the management to increase the intake numbers to 300 drivers and 100 forklift operators.

Khatri assured successful applicants who lack passports that they will get them within seven days after application.

“I have talked with the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen and he has assured us that the passport process will be fast-tracked and within seven days they shall be out,” stated the speaker.

The speaker also called upon other organisations to emulate DP World and invest in the youth of Mombasa.

He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to create more job opportunities and equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the competitive job market.

“The Mombasa County Assembly remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower young people and contribute to the overall development of the region,” said Khatri.
