Most Outstanding Women in Top 100 Kenyans 2024

Kenyans.co.ke has released the much-anticipated list of the Top 100 most celebrated Kenyans of 2024. Out of the 100 much-contested names, nearly half were women.

In this piece, we will examine some of the women who have broken barriers and done outstanding deeds. 

Without further ado, here are six women from the list who have done extremely amazing and deserve a standing ovation.

Major General Fatuma Ahmed

Born in 1965 the story of Major General Fatuma Ahmed is nothing short of extraordinary. She joined the Kenyan military by chance and has since shattered glass ceilings at every turn.

It may seem as though making history is her middle name. In 2015, she made history as Kenya’s first female brigadier. Three years later, she became the country’s first female major general.

Her journey didn’t stop there, in 2024, she achieved yet another milestone by becoming the first woman to command the Kenya Air Force.

Through the years, Major General Ahmed has embodied resilience and determination. Her leadership roles have not only paved the way for future generations of women in the military but have also brought a fresh perspective to the armed forces.

Mildred Cheche

In the world of football, Mildred Cheche has proved that women can go any mile.

Beatrice Chebet

If you need an inspiring story, then Beatrice Chebet will definitely give you one.

In 2024, Chebet took the world of long-distance running by storm. She seized the moment by solidifying her status as one of Kenya’s most promising athletes.

Chebet dominated the track field from Oregon to Paris in the Olympics. In January, Chebet shattered the world record for the 10,000 meters with a breathtaking time of 28:54.14 in Eugene, Oregon.

Her prowess was evident during the Olympics when she clinched gold medals in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, becoming the first Kenyan woman to achieve this double victory.

Crystal Asige

As a nominated Senator, Crystal has played a crucial role in passing four significant bills in Parliament, including the Learners with Disability Bill, which aims to integrate disabled students into mainstream schools.

Faith Kipyegon

Faith Kipyegon warrants being termed as the greatest middle-distance runner of all time would be wrong considering her exemplary performance on the track field.

This year, Kipyegon has broken records and made history several times. She became the first female athlete to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500 meters, a feat she accomplished at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Her time of 3:51.29 not only secured her the gold but also set a new Olympic record. The queen of versatility also bagged a silver medal in the 5000 meters.

To crown her outstanding performance in 2024, the University of Eldoret awarded her an Honorary Doctor of Education Degree.

With her stellar performance, Kipyegon not only solidified her legacy but also inspired countless young athletes, especially in Kenya to dream big and strive for excellence. Congratulations!
