A family in Mogogosiek Village in Bomet County is in mourning after their son, Brian Moi, was killed in an altercation with a smokie vendor.
According to the family, the 20-year-old was stabbed to death after failing to pay Ksh25 for a boiled egg.
Speaking to the media, the grief-stricken family stated they are now seeking justice for the senseless murder as it could have been avoided.
“I am heartbroken. My son was not sick. He was killed in a very inhumane way and I want justice to be served,” his distraught mother stated.

A friend who was with Moi during the murder narrated how the murder took place, relaying that an accidental hit of the vendor’s trolley prompted the altercation.
“He left a pub, ate an egg, and then hit the trolley. That is when the vendor took out a knife and stabbed him. A debt of a boiled egg should not cost someone a life,” a friend narrated.
The police are still investigating the matter and justice is yet to be served for the young life lost.
In an eerily similar case in the neighbouring Nakuru County, another man lost his life after he was attacked by a mob justice over the alleged theft of five avocados.
The father of seven, Geoffrey Kamau, met his untimely end when neighbours descended on him with blows after he was found trying to pluck five avocados from a neighbour’s farm.
Following the attack, Kamau was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
“I want justice to be served in my son’s case. If it were not for that mob he could not have sustained the injuries on his head and his legs,” Kamau’s mother lamented.
Justice is yet to be served in this case, as police investigations are still ongoing.
