Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has dismissed allegations that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) cancelled the Kenya Certification of Secondary Education (KCSE) results of Lugulu Girls High School.
Addressing his constituents on Saturday, January 11, the vocal politician clarified that the school’s 2024 national examination results were withheld and not cancelled as purported by a section of Kenyans.
According to the legislator, he already contacted Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who informed him that the school’s results were withheld for further verification.
Barasa further revealed that the results were withheld after the school recorded an overperformance in last year’s examinations, forcing KNEC to conduct a fresh round of scrutiny.

To resolve the delay, the lawmaker vowed to conduct a follow-up on the process, adding that once the verification process is over, all the 2024 candidates at Lugulu Girls would be allowed to access their results.
“I have talked to the Education CS, and he has told me that the results have been withheld. There is a difference between withholding the results and rejecting the results.Â
“The way they did the examinations, the students overperformed until the examiners decided to conduct a verification. But I want to assure the parents of Lugulu and Kenyans that the results of Lugulu Girls can only be delayed for a few days,” he added.
While pledging his support for the institution, the legislator called on the parents and students at Lugulu Girls to exercise patience, adding that it was only the first time that such happened to the school.
Barasa’s sentiments followed a day after the Ministry of Education announced that the institution’s 2024 KCSE results had been withheld for various reasons.
Addressing the press on Friday, January 10, Western Region Director of Education Jared Obiero confirmed that indeed the examination council withheld the results pending a review by the examiners.
“The results were pending, and we are sorting out the matter. Let there be no cause of alarm. The results will be out soon. This usually happens for various reasons, including missing marks,” Obiero told journalists.
On Thursday, January 9, the Education CS Ogamba, while releasing the KCSE examination results, announced that KNEC cancelled the results of 840 candidates who sat for the examinations.
