As pressure continues to mount on the government over the rising cases of human rights abuses and abductions, a man has come out to narrate how a case of mistaken identity led to people he believes to be police officers breaking into his house at the wee hours of the night.
The man, who is based in Nakuru County, while speaking to NTV, narrated how the people he believes are behind the wave of abductions broke into his house while mistaking him for missing cartoonist Gideon Kibet Yoko.
”I was eating supper with my family, after which I slept. At around 3am, I heard a loud bang on my door. The bang was so loud that I heard the foundations of the house shake,” the man whose identity remained concealed for safety purposes narrated.
”The band was so loud that I kept wondering how bold they were to pull such a stunt, and yet we had security in our neighbourhood,” he added.

Upon realising he was in imminent danger, he alerted security, who assured him they would respond in time. His attempts to reach out to his neighbours, however, proved futile, as none of them dared come out to help him due to fear.
”I saw them peep through the window, and in no time they were in my bedroom brandishing guns. The guns look automatic and seem to be of new models. I saw guns pointing at me for the first time in my life,” he narrated.
According to the man, soon after the men broke through the gates, they charged at his house, after which they broke into his house. All this was before he could come to terms with what was happening and the mystery behind the break-in.
The mistaken man revealed that upon entering his bedroom and realising that he was not their target, they lowered their guns, asked him to move from the bed, and tossed his mattress.
As if looking for someone under the bed, they seemed to be pissed that they could not find anyone hiding under the bed.
”They asked me who lives here. I informed them that it was my family and me, after which they requested to see where they were, and I obliged and showed them,” he added.
The man narrated that following the ordeal, his family has been left shaken, and now he is forced to reassure his family that the men would not return to their residence.
The man further revealed that upon realising that they were in the wrong house, they accused him of failing to open the door, insisting they announced themselves as police.
The next morning, he reported the incident at Njoro Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) offices, surprisingly, none of them could tell if the officers were from their jurisdiction.
The man, who works as a caretaker, revealed that it wasn’t until December 25 when one of his neighbours called to inform him that the person being sought was one of his tenants, as seen on TV.
