Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has assured residents of enhanced security during this festive season.

Lotiatia said criminals who were causing insecurity in the Narok town by killing innocent people in the months of September and October had been arrested and prosecuted in court.

He spoke at William Ole Ntimama stadium during the Jamhuri day celebrations, where he asked the residents to report criminals.

“I want to assure all Narok residents that we will protect them as they enjoy this festive season. Those who were engaging in criminal activities in Narok town and its environs are now in prison,” he said.

The county commissioner also used the forum to ask motorists to drive carefully during this festive season to avoid causing accidents.

“You must ensure that the vehicles you are driving are roadworthy and observe the laid down traffic regulations to avoid being on the wrong side of the law,” he said.

At the same time, Lotiatia called on residents to avoid barricading major highways in case of an accident saying such moves hinder the free traffic flow and inconvenience innocent people.

Instead, he challenged residents to involve the traffic police whenever there is an issue along the road so that the issue can be resolved amicably without causing mayhem.

“I have observed that when livestock are knocked along the highway or accidents involving prominent people occur, the residents block the road and inconvenience a large number of innocent travelers,” he reiterated.

Lotiatia noted that hundreds of tourists will be traveling to the Maasai Mara game reserve during Christmas and new year festival, hence the need to maintain respect along the road.

At the same time, the County Commissioner warned those selling unregulated alcohol saying they will carry out impromptu visits in all premises selling beer, wine and spirits to ensure that what they sold to the members of the public was standard.
