Just a day after announcing plans to support Turkana Rural Water Company (TURWASCO) in adopting a digital billing system, the USAID-funded Sustainable Transformational and Accessible Water Intervention (STAWI) programme has commenced a training session for the company’s leadership and technical staff.

The training, facilitated in partnership with Rural Water Management Solutions Kenya, aims to equip TURWASCO personnel with the necessary skills to manage digital revenue collection systems effectively.

The initiative is expected to streamline billing, minimise revenue losses, and enhance service delivery across the county.

Gracing the event was the County Executive for Water Services, Patrick Losike Lokaimoe, who emphasized the county government’s commitment to strengthening water service provision through technology.

“This training marks a major milestone in ensuring accountability and efficiency in water service delivery. A digital billing system will not only improve revenue collection but also enhance transparency and customer satisfaction,” said Lokaimoe.

TURWASCO Managing Director, Vistorsam Ekaran, underscored the significance of the training in ensuring a smooth transition from manual to digital systems.

“By equipping our team with digital skills, we are ensuring that water consumers receive improved services while securing the financial sustainability of our operations,” Ekaran noted.

Participants will undergo hands-on training on digital billing software, data management, and customer service integration.

The programme is part of TURWASCO’s broader strategy to professionalise rural water services as it continues the phased takeover of community-managed water schemes.
