Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Secretary and CEO, Abdi Ahmed Mohamoud, was on Monday sworn into office by Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court Winrida Mokaya Boyani at the Supreme Court, Nairobi.

The function was graced by the Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome, EACC Chair Bishop David Oginde, Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JALC) Chairperson George Murugara, Deputy IG Kenya Police Eliud Lagat, among other guests.

Mohamoud takes over from Twalib Abdallah Mbarak, who has served as the EACC Secretary/CEO for the past six years.

He was appointed through a gazette notice dated 5th December 2024, following the expiry of Twalib.

Mohamoud made it clear that he is aware of the duties Kenyans bestowed upon EACC in the war against corruption. “Corruption is one of the key challenges that the nation is facing,” he stated.

He promised that he will be committed to enforcing the EACC strategic plan 2023/28 in combating corruption, economic crimes, and unethical conduct.

Mohamoud said that his team will strive to implement the main strategies as contained in the strategic plan, which include law enforcement, prevention of crime, integrity, anti-corruption, and promotion of standards and ethical practices.

CJ Martha Koome congratulated Mohamoud for his appointment in a process that was rigorous, open, transparent, and competitive.

“The position of EACC CEO is more than a job; for me, it is a calling,” Koome said.

She added that the judiciary is willing to work hand in hand with EACC in curbing corruption.

“We as the judiciary are ready to collaborate and work with you both as members of the National Council on the Administration of Justice and as people who have the duty of upholding the Rule of Law,” said the CJ.

JLAC chairperson George Murugara assured the new EACC CEO that the parliament is committed to supporting the anti-graft commission.

“With the support of parliament, EACC will perform even better than it did in the past,” said Murugara.

He added that the parliament will collaborate with the judiciary to enable it to discharge its mandates in accordance with the constitution.

EACC Chairperson Bishop David Oginde expressed his trust in the new secretary/CEO, who has served in the commission for about 30 years.

He said that the introduction of Mohamoud will propel EACC to the next level.

“We are very hopeful because when transitions come, it is an opportunity to move the organisation to the next level,” said Oginde.

The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court said that Mohamoud was appointed due to his vast experience after serving the EACC as Corruption Investigation Officer for over three decades.
