Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital has launched a five-year strategic plan, 2024 to 2029, which aims to transform healthcare service delivery and elevate the facility to a higher level of excellence.
The seven-pillar plan focuses on modernising hospital infrastructure, strengthening the workforce, enhancing service delivery and customer experience, advancing digitisation, improving access to medications, and reinforcing leadership and governance.
According to the hospital superintendent, Dr. Lawrence Kamande, over time, the hospital has developed a diverse skill set, including the introduction of sub-specialists, and currently hosts a cardiologist among the specialists on call.
He noted that the programme will enable the facility to offer quality health services to the people for the next five years, adding that the document will guide the hospital to achieve major infrastructural development, quality service delivery, human resources, and attainment of referral status.
Major projects planned include procuring two new ambulances, a state-of-the-art outpatient block, an Amenity Ward, a Funeral Home, a CT-Scan, a Satellite Blood Transfusion Centre and a Wellness Centre among others.
When he graced the occasion at the hospital grounds, Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu said his administration remains committed to education, training, and retention strategies for hospital staff to ensure they stay healthy, capable, and dedicated to their professional oath.
Governor Irungu noted that the government is focused on building a healthier and stronger workforce through teamwork and dedication.
He observed that Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital is an important health facility in the area and requires concerted efforts to elevate it to another level to enable it to meet the full scope of its mandate.
However, he called for increased funding, which Laikipia County administration would also support to ensure the hospital is financially self-sustaining.
The County Boss called for collaboration to cultivate a workplace culture that values and supports mental well-being.
“My administration will invest more in primary health services so that people can access affordable and available health services,” said Governor Irungu.
The governor also called on stakeholders in the health sector to work hand in hand with the county government for the benefit of the people of Laikipia.
