Night Infernos Destroy Limuru Country Club, Leave Kawangware Families Homeless

Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in ravaging fires that consumed different parts of Nairobi and Kiambu counties on Friday, December 3, night.

In the first incident, the raging fire destroyed property worth millions of investments at the Limuru Country Club in Kiambu County, just 25 kilometres away from Nairobi. The clubhouse was established in 1945 and is one of the iconic landmarks in the area.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, showed the clubhouse engulfed in huge balls of fire that had consumed the whole building.

Efforts by the county disaster units to contain the fire were unsuccessful. According to witnesses, the firefighters arrived moments when a bigger part of the buildings had been razed.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident revealed that they heard loud explosions from what they suspected to be liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage facilities.

At the time of publishing, neither the Kiambu County government nor Limuru Country Club had provided a detailed statement on the fire. However, the management confirmed that no injuries were reported.

“We are relieved to report that no staff, members, or guests were present at the time of the incident,” the statement from the management confirmed.

In Nairobi County, several scores of people were left homeless after a fire broke out at a residential area in the populated Kawangware estate.

This is after a fire broke out at an LPG gas dealer that was located within the residential area, leaving many people with injuries.

The two incidents have sparked debate over the safety of LPG storage facilities across the country, further heightening public concerns.

The fires broke out barely hours after another fire incident was reported at Kikuyu town near a footbridge along the Southern Bypass, where property of unknown value has been gutted down.
