Although there are many great third-party gamepads available, the Switch Pro Controller remains the best all-around controller for Nintendo's older console. It's more comfortable to use a full-size controller than a pair of Joy-Cons for extended hours, and its larger sticks are far more precise. It also features a proper D-pad instead of four separate buttons, and similarities with Nintendo's Joy-Con controllers, meaning you get gyro controls, HD rumble, and amiibo support.

Other controllers, such as Gulkit's King Kong seriesSome of these features are there and the Pro Controller is one-upped with a drift-free Hall Effect stick and some customizability. However, they do not provide extremely A foolproof, plug-and-play experience similar to Nintendo's gamepads that you can hand over to a kid and know everything will work.

While Nintendo recently announced that its next console will be Backwards-compatible with Switch gamesIt doesn't say what this means for peripherals like the Pro Controller. There's a possibility that it won't be 100 percent compatible with the Switch's successor, but since it uses open protocols like Bluetooth, there's really no reason why it shouldn't. That is, unless Nintendo makes some significant changes with its wireless controller setup or really wants us to buy new controllers. (Fingers crossed this doesn't get to this point.)
