A 14-month-old infant who had allegedly been kidnapped by a relative was finally rescued by the police on Tuesday after a five-day search.
Through a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that its officers retrieved the baby who disappeared under mysterious circumstances causing distraught and grief to her parents.
“Intelligence Police Officers domiciled at Kutus Police Station have successfully rescued a 14-month-old baby who was reported missing on January 23, 2025,” DCI stated.
The sleuths revealed that the baby was rescued in the company of her cousin who they nabbed from her hideout after an intense investigation.

“Through forensic trails, they were able to smoke out and arrest the relative from her hideout in Piai area of Kirinyaga County, in an operation that saw the rescue of the infant bringing her back to safety,” the sleuths informed.
According to the baby’s mother, she had left her child in the company of her niece while she stepped into a barber shop for a haircut.
The niece had gone to the local shopping center in Kirinyaga to run errands when she met up with her aunt who gave her instructions to take care of the baby.
In a bizarre turn of events, the niece took off with the baby without any solid reason or cause prompting the baby’s mother and other family members to notify the relevant authorities.
After successfully managing to deliver the baby to her family, the DCI revealed that investigations were still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the baby’s kidnapping.
“Meanwhile, as investigations continue, the baby has been joyfully reunited with her family, bringing an end to their distressing ordeal and restoring peace to their hearts,” DCI observed.
While the circumstances around the infant’s kidnapping remain unclear, cases of child kidnapping are a constant menace in the country with many attributing the vice to child trafficking.
According to the Kenyan Constitution, any person who kidnaps any person from Kenya or from lawful guardianship is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.
