Property Worth Millions Destroyed After Fire Burns Down Furniture Store in Kiambu

A mysterious fire has destroyed property of unknown value at the Modern Furniture Pacific shop in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

According to witnesses, the fire broke out on Wednesday, 18 December, at around 7 am inside the furniture store before spreading to other sections and burning several pieces of furniture.

Following the incident, area residents initiated a rescue operation to extinguish the fire. However, the flames quickly spread to other parts of the store, making it impossible to contain.

Moments later, a team of firefighters from Kiambu County arrived at the scene and put out the fire which had already burnt down a considerable chunk of the building including most furniture.

The furniture shop is owned by a prominent businessman Gibson Murage Gitonga who also owns several other furniture stores across the country including one in Nakuru.

Before his relocation to Kiambu County, Gibson Murage operated his furniture business in Nyeri. The middle-aged man has built a successful furniture business that has employed many people.

Murage launched the furniture business in Kiambu in January this year, an event that was attended by several high-profile guests including Kimabu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa.

With the fire having been put off, no deaths or injuries were reported, however, the cause of the inferno is yet to be established with police officers currently on the scene to assess the incident.

The fire tragedy at the Modern Furniture Pacific shop comes a day after several guest rooms were burnt down after a fire broke out at a guest house in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

While confirming the incident, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti revealed that the fire resulted in the death of one person and the destruction of a store located near the guest house.

“Saddened by the fire incident which killed one person and gutted down 12 guest rooms and a store in Mlolongo last night. I must commend our team of firefighters who moved swiftly to quell the fire thus preventing further loss of lives and property,” the governor wrote.
