Puzzle as Student's Dead Body Found in School's Swimming Pool Week After Visiting Day

The family of a Form Two student at Miangeni International School in Makueni is in mourning following his tragic death under unclear circumstances.

According to school records, the student reportedly died at the school’s swimming pool. However, his family alleges that he succumbed to head injuries caused by a blunt object.

His lifeless body was discovered in the pool on Monday last week, raising further questions about the cause of his death. The late Martin Mugambi’s family is now seeking answers regarding the incident.

”We do not want anyone to speak, save for the body. We want the doctor to conduct a postmortem so that we can know what led to the death of our son,” Harun Mwangi, an uncle to the deceased, maintained.

”This is because if you check the body, he appears to have been hit with a metal on the head with blood clogged all over his face, they then threw him into the water,” he added.

The family, while carrying twigs and shouting, further demanded to know why a government pathologist had not been sent to conduct an autopsy on the body more than a week after he died.

His brother further said that it was a tough decision for them to accept the death of their kin under the mysterious circumstances.

”My brother was bringing As (grade) home and here I am coming to collect his body from the morgue. I cannot understand,” the brother added.

The school, however, refuted the claims accusing the family of failing to visit their son while in school during the school’s fun day a weekend before his death.

The school’s management indicated that the student might have been facing mental health-related problems, further escalated by the family’s failure to visit him during the fun day.

”It took an extra effort for a phone call to be made for the student to be sent money. This was for his shopping,” Gerald Ndege, the Deputy Principal, disclosed.

”He was sent Ksh900 which was not enough. His brother sent an additional Ksh300 that did little to solve the situation.”

The school further stated that they had bought Mugambi snacks, just as they did for his fellow students. They also disclosed that some students had come forward, revealing that Mugambi had expressed thoughts of suicide.

His body was later moved to the Makindu Sub-County morgue, where tensions ran high as the family arrived, demanding answers about their loved one’s death.

The matter was taken over by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI), who recorded statements from the school, parents, and the students as investigations continued.
