Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday downplayed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting with President William Ruto terming their discussion as private talks.
In an Interview with Inooro TV at his rural home in Wamunyoro in Nyeri County on Sunday evening, the former DP said the meeting between the two was about private affairs.
The former deputy president further noted that Mt Kenya people don’t take orders from anyone and are not bound to be controlled by private talks between leaders.
“The way I know our people, even our former President Uhuru knows, our people cannot be told where to go. It is them that tells leaders where to go,” he told the interviewer.

“If the president went to ask for forgiveness from Uhuru, there is no problem with that. About what they talked about, since I was not there, I cannot say it concerns the people of Mt Kenya,” he asserted.
The meeting between the two raised eyebrows from both the public and local politicians. However, Gachagua stated that the meeting was inconsequential because, at the end of the day, the people from Mt Kenya will decide their own political direction.
Gachagua vowed to follow the people’s wishes in calling out the government and advocating for the concerns of the common people.
The former DP further refuted his association with the former Head of State noting that he could not speak on Uhuru’s behalf regarding his political stance in the upcoming general elections since he had not talked to him.
“I do not know whether Uhuru will be active in politics or not because I have not talked with him. It would not be fair to talk about such matters,” Gachagua politely declined to comment on Uhuru’s legitimacy as the kingpin of the region.
Gachagua said that he harbours no animosity with former President Uhuru and he respects him and wishes him well in his retirement.
The former Deputy President also promised to make a major announcement to ‘reclaim Mt. Kenya’s dignity in 2025’.
Gachagua noted that right now, he is engaged in talks with other leaders in preparation for the 2027 elections. He welcomed leaders from other regions to join forces and form a coalition that may field a presidential candidate.
