Property of unknown value went up in flames on Wednesday, January 8, after a fire broke out at a bus terminus in Narok County.
According to witnesses who spoke to the press, the fire broke out after a gas cylinder that was being used in one of the food outlets located near the bus stage exploded.
Reports further indicated that the fire quickly spread to nearby shops, destroying several properties. However, no injuries were reported from the incident.
While confirming the incident, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu revealed that a team of firefighters from the county government was dispatched immediately and extinguished the flames.

“Our fire engines responded swiftly and successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage to property and ensuring the safety of park users,” Ntutu revealed.
Nonetheless, the governor faulted a section trader whom he accused of contravening the safety measures and precautions recommended by the county government.
According to him, when he commissioned the bus park, he issued a directive prohibiting eateries from preparing meals within the park, however, this he said, was ignored.
“We have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire and to establish how the gas cylinders found their way into the bus park,” the Governor said.
“We advised that meals be prepared elsewhere and only brought to the stalls for sale. Let us prioritize safety at all times to prevent avoidable disasters,” he added.

The incident which took place a few minutes to midnight left at least two people nursing injuries and were rushed to the Matata Hospital in Homa Bay town for treatment.
