At its press conference at CES today, Sony Honda Mobility announced pricing and preorder details for the Afila. The vehicle will come in two trims: the $89,900 Afila 1 Origin, and the $102,900 Afila 1 Signature. That price includes a three-year complimentary subscription to various in-car features, including the company's Level 2+ driver assistance and AI-powered personal assistant. Pre-orders start today, and interested buyers can put down a refundable $200 deposit to get in line to purchase it.

And now the Afila, with its sleek sedan looks and plenty of interior touchscreens, is moving rapidly closer to becoming a real car you can actually buy.

The latest prototype is a sleek EV sedan that looks like a mashup of Tesla with the Lucid Air. It features screens spanning the width of the dashboard, 45 sensors and cameras for semi-autonomous driving assistance, all-wheel drive, and augmented reality integration and hints of a “virtual world” built into the driving experience. As a result, Sony's first foray into the automotive sector already appears to be geared towards competing with some of the top players in the luxury EV sector.

Sony Honda Mobility has also said it hopes its software will provide subscription services, so vehicle owners will have to pay a monthly fee to access certain features such as video streaming.

Pre-order details aren't the only thing we're getting from Sony Honda Mobility this week. Tomorrow, the company will hold another press conference to highlight the customer experience of purchasing and owning the Afila.
