Tiaty MP William Kamket Reveals State Involvement in Abductions, Cites ‘Ruto Must Go’ Fallout

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has revealed that Kenyans are being abducted because of criticising President William Ruto’s government.

In what seems like a confession that the government is abducting people, the MP revealed the abductions are ‘repercussions and reprisals’ against those calling for the ouster of the Ruto regime.

The MP spoke in Baringo County on Friday, February 7, where he alleged that Kenyans were using unconstitutional means to try and end Ruto’s government, leading to the abductions.

“When you say that Ruto Must Go and you want to use unconstitutional means, what do you expect from the state?” Kamket asked.

He added, “You expect what we call reprisals; you expect repercussions. So the little noises you hear about some people being arrested and abducted—those are repercussions of trying to overthrow the government through unconstitutional means.”

According to the Member of Parliament, the government critics deserve the abductions and arrests for opposing the government.

Kenya has faced an increase in cases of abduction, causing a huge backlash in the country, with some arguing that the cases are taking the country back to the dark days.

According to data from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), there have been 13 more cases of abductions or enforced disappearances in the last three months, bringing to 82 the total cases since June 2024.

Seven of the recent abduction cases were reported in December 2024, with six of them still missing, bringing to 29 the total number of persons still missing since June 2024.

Despite the increased cases of forced disappearance, the country’s security agencies have denied any involvement in some of the cases, while claiming others were arrests and not abductions.

Police IG Douglas Kanja has numerously denied the involvement of police in the cases. Recently, Public Service CS Justin Muturi accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of being behind the abductions.

This is after his son was allegedly abducted last year. The CS revealed that he called the president and asked for his son to be released. After the call, his son was released within an hour.

On his part, President William Ruto promised Kenyans that his administration would ensure abduction cases end.

“What has been said about abductions, we will stop them so Kenyan youth can live in peace, but they should have discipline and be polite so that we can build Kenya together,” Ruto said at a stadium in Homa Bay.
