A total of 77 students who gained entry into universities in the recently released KCSE 2024 examination results have been assured support by the Ugenya National Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) in bursaries to pursue higher learning.

These students are part of 80 scholarship beneficiaries from 2024 who were being supported by the constituency bursary scheme under the MP for Ugenya, David Ochieng.

The cost, according to the constituency manager, Sylvester Wire, stands at Sh15 million that has helped support these students from disadvantaged backgrounds across the entire constituency in ensuring bright students from such backgrounds are assisted in living up to their full potential.

Wire also called on those tasked with the duty of identifying students who need assistance not to politicise the exercise and instead work based on the backgrounds and merit of those identified, adding that education should not be politicized at the expense of future generations.

Amongst the beneficiaries was Angel Gakenia, who scored an A plain from the Kenya High School, maintaining her stellar performance, having been the second-best student nationally and the best in Kisumu County with 432 marks in KCPE back in 2021.

The office of NGCDF in Ugenya, through MP David Ochieng, assured the students that their academic endeavors will be supported without compromise throughout their university education to the end in whatever courses they choose to pursue.

“We cannot stop supporting these students after form four; then we will have done nothing to help them, because this NGCDF bursary has not been depleted after their high school. As they still progress with their education, there is no one else who can assist them other than this CDF bursary. Their backgrounds are disadvantaged that we must hold their hands and support them to the very end until they can stand on their own and hopefully support others,” said Wire.
