Former President Donald Trump spoke Wednesday morning from his Election Night headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, as Vice President Kamala Harris' path to victory narrows. Senator JD Vance and Trump's family were seen on the stage with him.
CBS News has not made any broadcasts yet presidential raceBecause Trump currently does not have the electoral votes to declare victory.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of electing you as your 47th President and 45th President,” Trump said. “And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and for your future. Every day, I will fight for you with every breath of my body.”
Trump said the US “has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” noting that Republicans have taken back control of the Senate.
He said, “This will truly be the Golden Age of America.”
So far, the battleground states CBS News predicts Trump will win are North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania. CBS News reports Wisconsin as leaning toward Trump. He needs 270 electoral votes to win.
It was expected that Harris would celebrate election night at her alma mater, Howard University, but after midnight, Harris campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond told the crowd that she would not be speaking to supporters tonight. Harris remains at the Vice President's residence in Washington DC
Trump's supporters at his watch party in West Palm Beach cheered as the results came in Tuesday night, with Fox News playing in the background. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Senator Marco Rubio and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were among those supporters.
Trump has long cast doubt on the integrity of the election and its results. But when the results appeared to be in his favor on Tuesday night, he remained largely silent on social media.
CBS News projects Republicans will take over control of the senate When the new Congress starts in January.
