We Will Forgive But Never Forget- Gachagua Tells Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that Mt Kenya residents will forgive President William Ruto despite allegations of betrayal but maintained that the region will never forget about it.

Gachagua, who spoke in Olkalou constituency, Nyandarua County, on Saturday during the consecration service of Bishop George Gathari, noted that the Mt Kenya region will consult widely before deciding on the candidate to support.

He stated that the populous region would also assess every leader’s track record before deciding their support for the preferred candidates.

According to Gachagua, the Mt Kenya region was duped into supporting President Ruto, but immediately after he became the country’s Head of State, he neglected the region.

“I had a friend who we worked with and whom I helped very much, he used to call me Riggy G and Baba Kevin, but now he is pretending not to know me, he is now calling me a tribalist,” Gachagua said.

“Now we only depend on God because human beings are unpredictable, some of us especially people from this region are now very careful, if someone comes to us now, we will do a thorough background check,” he added.

While referencing the day’s sermon on forgiveness, Gachagua also took a swipe at the government over surging cases of abductions stating that the perpetrators of the abductions and killings of young people will also be forgiven but never forgotten.

He emphasised that the young Kenyans did not warrant being abducted and even killed for having a divergent opinion about Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza regime.

The former DP also weighed in on the recent dismissal of his political allies from key Senate roles, adding they were now free to put the government on the spot over stalled projects in the region.

Among those who were removed from their various Senate committee roles included Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa who was dismissed from his role as the Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee.

Thagwa was dismissed alongside his Nyandarua counterpart John Methu who was de-whipped from his role as the Chairperson of the Senate’s Lands and Environment Committee and member of the County Public Accounts Committee.

“Those who have been removed from parliamentary seats should not worry, including my friend Methu, those seats are just flowers, the main seat is the one which you hold on behalf of Nyandarua people,

“As long as these residents are happy with you, you do not have a problem, so do not be worried about being removed from the position of a committee chairperson in parliament.”
