Youth Urge Ruto to Prioritize Them in Permanent Secretary Appointments

A section of youths from Kericho County have appealed to President William Ruto to consider them in the upcoming appointments of Principal Secretaries.

Led by Elkana Mutai, Kericho County Youth President, the youths who were drumming up support for their candidate challenged Ruto to consider appointing young people in government.

“We have come here today to request President Ruto to make sure he appoints youths and young men in the leadership of principal secretaries that he is yet to appoint,” Mutai pleaded.

According to the youth, the government needs to include young people in the country’s leadership and widen their opportunities.

They have asked Ruto to consider appointing two youths from Kericho who had been shortlisted for the position.

The youths asked Ruto to appoint Vincent Kigen, who is the current National Employment Authority chairperson, and Joseph Limo, the former Member of Parliament of Kipkelion East.

The plea comes a month after the Public Service Commission (PSC) shortlisted 109 candidates for various Principal Secretary (PS) positions.

The PSC received 2517 applications as stipulated on a notice it published on its official social media and websites.

This is after, on November 20, 2024, it published an advertisement calling for Kenyans to apply for the vacant positions of Principal Secretaries.

Others shortlisted apart from Kigen and Limo are former Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu, social media influencer Gabriel Oguda, and former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

Former Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) board chair Anne Makori and former Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Managing Director Machari Irungu, Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, and former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacy, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Fredrick Ouma were also shortlisted among others.

The commission is set to vet all the listed individuals on a date that will be communicated by PSC.

In 2024, President Ruto made changes in the cabinet that saw some Cabinet Secretaries dropped from the government as members of the opposition took up their positions.
